Kitchen Scissors Maintenance:

Ⅰ: About Rust :

No matter what kind of stainless steel is not “absolutely rust-free”. The rust resistance of stainless steel is closely related to its use environment and maintenance method. The harder the steel, the greater its carbon content and the less rust-resistant it becomes. Only 304/316 stainless steel can achieve true rust resistance (it will still rust in extreme environments), but their hardness is too low to be used as scissors & knives. The AUS-8 stainless steel used in TONMA kitchen scissors is one of the best steels with comprehensive performance.

Ⅱ: All Purpose Kitchen Scissors Maintenance:

After each use, wipe the blade’s edge, wash it with water (dishwasher safe, but HAND WASHING is highly recommended), and dry thoroughly with a dry cloth. Applying cooking oil to the shear blades can help prevent rust and keep them sharper and more durable.

Ⅲ: How to Remove Light Rust from Stainless Steel Scissors:

Materials Needed:

  • White vinegar or lemon juice
  • Baking soda or toothpaste
  • Soft cloth, old toothbrush, or fine steel wool (optional)
  • Water, paper towel, and cooking oil (for protection)

STEPS:

Acid Treatment (For Surface Rust):

  1. Soak a paper towel in white vinegar or lemon juice.
  2. Place it on the rusty area for 10–15 minutes to loosen the rust.
  3. Gently scrub with an old toothbrush or soft cloth. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.

Gentle Scrubbing (Stubborn Rust):

  1. Make a paste with baking soda and water, or apply toothpaste directly to the rust.
  2. Use a soft cloth or toothbrush to rub in circular motions. Rinse and dry completely.
  3. Light Sanding (For Tough Rust):

Prevent Future Rust:

  1. Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the blades and joints after cleaning.
  2. Store scissors in a dry place and wipe them dry after each use.

Note: Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools to prevent scratching. If the rust is severe or affects the function, please contact TONMA for help.

That gorgeous mirror polish is not just for looks—the ultra-smooth surface makes cleanup a breeze since food residue doesn’t stick. Even after months of use, they still gleam like new with just a quick wipe. The precision edges reflect light so sharply you can tell they’re high-end. My friends thought they were decorative until I started slicing through lobster shells like butter.

I can immediately feel the difference real Japanese manufacturing makes. The precise blade alignment, the perfect tension in the pivot, the way they snap shut – it’s clear these were made by artisans who’ve been perfecting scissors for generations. My sushi chef friend confirmed TONMA uses the same forging techniques as premium Japanese cutlery brands costing twice as much.

The first thing you notice is the stunning mirror finish on these Japanese-crafted shears – they practically glow under kitchen lights! Beyond looks, that ultra-smooth AUS-8 steel surface helps food slide right off. I’ve never seen scissors with such a flawless polish – it’s like they took a page from samurai sword craftsmanship. Even after months of use, they still look brand new with minimal maintenance.

Bought these for my mom, and she raves about them weekly. The sleek look and performance make them feel luxurious without being fussy. Now my siblings all want a pair too—best kitchen gift idea ever!

These aren’t your grandma’s kitchen scissors – they’re absolute beasts! I tested them on whole chickens, lobster shells, and even trimmed some thick rosemary branches in the garden. The reinforced joint and thick blades didn’t flinch. That famous Japanese steel takes punishment that would destroy ordinary shears while staying razor-sharp.

Compared to my German and American shears, these Japanese kitchen shears have a refined balance—no clunky mechanics. The AUS-8 steel is clearly heat-treated for longevity; it’s the sweet spot between hardness and rust resistance.

These scissors are absolute beasts! I use them daily for everything from spatchcocking chickens to snipping thick herb stems, and they power through without straining. The AUS-8 steel blades stay razor-sharp even after breaking down poultry joints—no wobbling or dulling. The weight is perfect: substantial enough to handle tough tasks but not fatiguing. 10/10 for heavy-duty reliability.

After a year of abuse in my busy home kitchen, these still perform like new. The mirror finish hides minor scratches well, and the blades haven’t developed any play. Most impressive? They’ve survived multiple drops on tile floors without damage – that Japanese steel is nearly indestructible!

Holding these is like owning a piece of functional art. The mirror blades catch the light while cooking, and the weight distribution feels perfect in hand. My Guests always comment on how premium they look – until they use them and realize the beauty is matched by incredible performance.

The AUS-8 steel is seriously impressive – harder than most German knives yet more rust-resistant. After six months of near-daily use, I haven’t needed to sharpen them once. When I do eventually hone them, the metal takes an edge beautifully thanks to that premium Japanese tempering process.

Despite heavy use cutting acidic foods like lemons and tomatoes, the mirror polish hasn’t dulled or stained. A quick wipe with the included microfiber cloth keeps them looking like display pieces. I love that the stunning appearance isn’t just for show – it actually improves functionality by reducing food sticking.

As someone with arthritis, I’m obsessed with the handles. I’ve deboned a Thanksgiving turkey and prepped five meals back-to-back without cramps. Most ‘ergonomic’ scissors are just marketing, but these genuinely cater to prolonged use. Even my chef friend stole them during a BBQ party!

I’m lazy, so I tossed them in the dishwasher for weeks with no issues. But after hand-washing once, I noticed the blades stayed sharper longer. Now I just rinse and oil them—takes 10 seconds. The steel doesn’t stain or pit like cheaper models. Pro tip: A drop of oil keeps the pivot buttery.
