    I keep this TONMA folding saw strapped to my pack for trail maintenance, and it’s a total workhorse. The 12-inch blade is the perfect length for clearing fallen limbs that block the path. It’s got that classic Japanese pull-stroke that makes short work of thick brush. The hard chrome plating is a nice touch—it glides through sap-heavy pine without gumming up. If you’re looking for a rugged companion to help you break trail, this is definitely the move.

    I’m usually pretty stingy with my pack weight, but this folding saw is worth every gram. It’s slim enough to slide into a side pocket and weighs next to nothing. Despite being so portable, it’s got enough reach and leverage to handle 6-inch logs for a proper campfire. The locking mechanism is snappy and secure, so I never worry about it folding on my fingers.     The specs on this Tonma saw are impressive for a mid-sized folder. You’re looking at high-carbon steel with a hard chrome finish, which provides excellent corrosion resistance and low friction. The impulse hardening on the tips of the teeth is executed perfectly—it gives you that long-term edge retention without making the whole blade brittle. The kerf is nice and clean, leaving a smooth surface on the wood. It’s a very well-engineered piece of kit.
